Alize

Page history last edited by Halfling Rogue 8 mos ago

Alize (alize-in-melody, manga scans here) is the secondmost least-known character in Zack-mun's repertoire (the firstmost least-known being Aya from the shojo manga Forbidden Dance). She's from the King of Bandit: Jing fandom, which is ridiculously difficult to find online info for. Zack-mun had to edit the Wikipedia page because it failed as far as plot description went. This makes her very put-out, because KoB:Jing is awesome and should be acknowledged by a wider fanbase.

KoB:Jing isn't a plot-centric series; it's very disconnected, and generally speaking every novel takes place in a different location with a different "Jing girl", each completely unrelated to each other--except for the fact that Jing, the King of Bandits, runs aground of each of them and proceeds to turn their lives upside-down. Alize is from the sixth volume of the Twilight Tales half of the series, and her arc takes place in the city of Merry Widow (all characters and places in KoB:Jing take names from alcoholic drinks). Merry Widow is famous for its instruments and cheerful atmosphere, despite coming out of a very terrible war known as the War of Grammar.

Long story short, Alize, with Jing's aid, discovers that she's secretly the trigger to a giant war machine o' doom, and that the man who killed her adoptive family was trying to wipe them out so that they wouldn't set off the weapon. Alize gets shot by a special kind of gun (the manga isn't clear on the details), and almost triggers the weapon, at which point Jing blows the whole thing up. The arc ends with Alize in a wheelchair, being pushed by Eyguebelle (the man who killed her family, figure THAT out), and the entire population of Merry Widow moving off to rebuild their city anew.

In DDD, Alize is still in the wheelchair, although she's regained full mobility from the waist up. She's living with Eygubelle in the newly-christened Widow's Kiss, and has absolutely nothing to do. This doesn't sit well with Alize, as she's very much a gung-ho revolutionary kind of girl. She was glad to stumble across the community as it was interesting and entertaining and at the very least, gave her something to do. Since then she's managed to make good friends with Demyx and Haruhi, has become deadset on dragging Roxas off to explore her world sometime, and managed to get along with Axel. She's a little overbearing sometimes and has a short temper, but she fiercely defends her friends. She talks to Demyx the most, as he's been the nicest to her, and they're both musicians (she a singer and him with his sitar). They often swap song lyrics on Alize's journal.

EDIT:

So after much angst and misery management and trying (and failing) to build with Dyme what she had with Demyx (hello, irony!), and losing the use of her legs again and winding up back in her wheelchair after Komui had finally gotten her out of it, Alize finally left 80's New York. She now lives in Ekoda with Hakuba and his family, and has pretty much been adopted as his sister for all intents and purposes. She also treats Kaito and Aoko rather like siblings, and... kind of tries to get along with Akako. Most of the time. And of course, she still tries to make time to hang with Haruhi.
