It turns out that the Sephiroth who released the Geostigma had been a replica crafted by Yunalesca from pyreflies; the 'original' Sephiroth still resided within Kadaj, and when he posted his introductory post, took Kadaj over for an entire week. Yunalesca realised she had deep feelings for Kadaj, despite her lust for Sephiroth, and begged for Kadaj's release.
