Skies of Arcadia is a console roleplaying game by Overworks that was originally made for the Sega Dreamcast but was released later with extra content for the Nintendo Gamecube.

The plot of Skies is fairly simple: You travel around the world and search for ancient Moon Crystals before the evil Valuan Empire can get them. That's really about it. There are a few plot twists that will have you applauding but nothing of Square caliber. The characters are what make the story. While they're all fairly static, they do have their own personalities. Vyse, the male lead is optimistic without being lobotomized, Aika is spunky without being annoying and Fina is naive without being an idiot.

The setting is Arcadia: A world where islands float in the clouds and travel is done by Airship. As you progress through the game you will encounter different lands, many of which are similar to countries on Earth. They are all phenomenally different, being separated by natural barriers that can't be crossed until Vyse crosses them. The technology level here is mostly Steampunk but the era is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Discovery.

This RPG is different from most other ones. Mostly because you're forced into battles while on your airship now.
